ADAM metallopeptidase with thrombospondin type 1 motif 13 (ADAMTS13/ADAMTS-13), also known as von Willebrand factor-cleaving protease (vWF-CP), is a secreted plasma metalloprotease central to von Willebrand factor regulation.
Biological function: ADAMTS13 is the von Willebrand factor-cleaving metalloprotease. Reviewed UniProt describes cleavage of von Willebrand factor (VWF) multimers into smaller forms, thereby limiting VWF-mediated platelet thrombus formation under shear conditions.
