YWHAB encodes 14-3-3 protein beta/alpha, an intracellular adaptor protein that binds phosphoserine-containing proteins and helps coordinate signalling pathways linking mitogenic signals, cell-cycle control and other regulatory processes. The protein is broadly expressed and functions mainly within the cytoplasmic signalling network rather than as a secreted or cell-surface target.
