Product description

Background

Reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. A major participant in the liver response to oxidative stress.

Test principle

This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with Rat CA3 antibody. CA3 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Rat CA3 Antibody is added and binds to CA3 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated CA3 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Rat CA3. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Research target context

CA3carbonic anhydrase 3

View target guide

Carbonic anhydrase 3 (CA3; carbonic anhydrase III/CA-III) is a cytosolic zinc metalloenzyme with carbonic-anhydrase activity and strong tissue enrichment in skeletal muscle. It is studied in muscle physiology, isozyme-specific CO2 hydration and carbonic-anhydrase expression biology.

Biological function: CA3 catalyses reversible hydration of carbon dioxide using a zinc cofactor. It is distinguished from other carbonic-anhydrase isozymes by tissue-specific expression, including high abundance in skeletal muscle, making it useful for studies of muscle-associated carbonic-anhydrase biology and isozyme kinetics.
