Product description

Background

The protein (Bruton tyrosine kinase) encoded by BTK plays a crucial role in B-cell development. Mutations in this gene cause X-linked agammaglobulinemia type 1, which is an immunodeficiency characterized by the failure to produce mature B lymphocytes, and associated with a failure of Ig heavy chain rearrangement. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.

Research target context

BTKBruton tyrosine kinase

View target guide

BTK (Bruton tyrosine kinase), also known as tyrosine-protein kinase BTK, is a TEC-family non-receptor tyrosine kinase central to B-cell receptor signalling and B-lymphocyte development.

Biological function: Following B-cell receptor engagement, BTK is activated at the plasma membrane and phosphorylates PLCG2, promoting calcium mobilization and downstream protein kinase C signalling. This kinase activity is central to B-cell activation, differentiation and immune signalling.
