AMACR

alpha-methylacyl-CoA racemase

AMACR (alpha-methylacyl-CoA racemase; P504S) is a mitochondrial and peroxisomal enzyme that interconverts stereoisomers of alpha-methyl branched acyl-CoA substrates. It is studied in branched-chain fatty-acid oxidation, bile-acid intermediate metabolism and metabolic enzyme expression research.

About AMACR

Target information is kept separate from product-level validation so you can review the biology and the reagent evidence independently.

Biology

Biological function

Alpha-methylacyl-CoA racemase converts (2R)-2-methylacyl-CoA esters to the (2S) configuration required for downstream beta-oxidation. Human AMACR acts on substrates derived from branched-chain fatty acids such as pristanic acid and on bile-acid synthesis intermediates, linking peroxisomal and mitochondrial lipid metabolism.

Experimental context

Research context

AMACR/P504S is used as a research marker and metabolic target in studies of lipid handling, peroxisomal and mitochondrial beta-oxidation, bile-acid biosynthesis and tissue-specific protein expression. Use the Abmium product set below to compare species reactivity, assay format, application and product-level validation before selecting a reagent.
