B and T lymphocyte associated(BTLA) Homo sapiens This gene encodes a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily. The encoded protein contains a single immunoglobulin (Ig) domain and is a receptor that relays inhibitory signals to suppress the immune response. BTLA (B and T lymphocyte associated), commonly called B- and T-lymphocyte attenuator or CD272, is an inhibitory lymphocyte receptor studied in antigen-receptor signalling and adaptive immune regulation.
Biological function: BTLA is a cell-surface inhibitory receptor that attenuates antigen-receptor signalling through the phosphatases PTPN6/SHP-1 and PTPN11/SHP-2. Reviewed human evidence also supports cis and trans interactions with TNFRSF14/HVEM, placing BTLA in regulatory circuits that tune lymphocyte activation and resting state.
