TP53 is a multifunctional transcription factor that induces cell cycle arrest, DNA repair or apoptosis upon binding to its target DNA sequence. TP53 acts as a tumour suppressor in many tumour types; induces growth arrest or apoptosis depending on the physiological circumstances and cell type. Negatively regulates cell division by controlling expression of a set of genes required for this process.

TP53 identifies tumor protein p53 in Homo sapiens (Human). This target record connects NCBI Gene 7157, UniProtKB P04637 and related ABMIUM catalogue products.
Biological function: TP53 encodes p53, a multifunctional DNA-binding transcription factor that responds to cellular stress by regulating programmes including cell-cycle arrest, DNA repair and apoptosis. Its activity is controlled by extensive protein interactions and post-translational regulation.
