A cytochrome P450 monooxygenase that selectively catalyses the epoxidation of the last double bond of the arachidonoyl moiety of anandamide, potentially modulating endocannabinoid signalling. CYP4X1 has no hydroxylase activity toward various fatty acids, steroids and prostaglandins. Mechanistically, uses molecular oxygen inserting one oxygen atom into a substrate, and reducing the second into a water molecule, with two electrons provided by NADPH via cytochrome P450 reductase (CPR; NADPH-ferrihemoprotein reductase).
