ANGPTL4 mediates inactivation of the lipoprotein lipase LPL, and thereby plays a role in the regulation of triglyceride clearance from the blood serum and in lipid metabolism. ANGPTL4 may also play a role in regulating glucose homeostasis and insulin sensitivity. ANGPTL4 inhibits proliferation, migration, and tubule formation of endothelial cells and reduces vascular leakage.

ANGPTL4 (angiopoietin like 4), also known as angiopoietin-related protein 4 and FIAF, is a secreted glycoprotein studied for regulation of lipoprotein lipase, triglyceride clearance, lipid metabolism and metabolic homeostasis.
Biological function: ANGPTL4 is a secreted regulator of lipid metabolism. Reviewed UniProt evidence shows that it inhibits lipoprotein lipase (LPL), limiting triglyceride hydrolysis and clearance of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins. Curated records also support roles in glucose homeostasis and insulin sensitivity, while the C-terminal region has reported effects on endothelial proliferation, migration and vascular permeability.
