Translocates phospholipids and drugs across the membrane. catalyses the flop of phospholipids from the cytoplasmic to the exoplasmic leaflet of the apical membrane. ABCB1 participates mainly to the flop of phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine, beta-D-glucosylceramides and sphingomyelins.
