Recombinant rabbit monoclonal primary antibody directed against human tumour protein p53 (TP53), a major regulator of responses to cellular stress and DNA damage.
The p53 transcription factor responds to cellular stresses by regulating genes controlling cell-cycle arrest, apoptosis, cellular senescence, DNA repair and metabolism. Its DNA-binding and transcription-activation functions help coordinate growth restriction when genetic integrity is threatened. In unstressed normal cells, p53 protein is generally kept at low abundance by regulatory turnover, whereas stress responses and many cancer-associated alterations can increase its accumulation. TP53 is therefore a widely investigated tumour suppressor in oncology and cell biology.

TP53 identifies tumor protein p53 in Homo sapiens (Human). This target record connects NCBI Gene 7157, UniProtKB P04637 and related ABMIUM catalogue products.
Biological function: TP53 encodes p53, a multifunctional DNA-binding transcription factor that responds to cellular stress by regulating programmes including cell-cycle arrest, DNA repair and apoptosis. Its activity is controlled by extensive protein interactions and post-translational regulation.
