Das TIMP-2-Gen wird durch 5 Exons kodiert, die 83 kb genomische DNA umfassen. TIMP-2 ist 83 Kilobasenpaare (kb) lang, wobei sich die Exon-Intron-Spleißstellen an konservierten Positionen bei den drei Mitgliedern der TIMP-Familie befinden. Das Gen für den Gewebeinhibitor der Metalloproteinasen-2 ist auf dem menschlichen Chromosomenarm 17q25 lokalisiert. TIMP-2 unterdrückt die durch angiogene Faktoren induzierte Endothelzellproliferation in vitro und die Angiogenese in vivo, unabhängig von der MMP-Hemmung. Das in diesem Kit verwendete Standardprodukt ist rekombinantes humanes TIMP-2 mit einer Molekülmasse von 22 kDa und 194 Aminosäuren.
