Die Expression von IGFBP5 durch stabile Transfektion und Adenovirus-vermittelte Infektion hemmte das Wachstum in 2 menschlichen Brustkrebszelllinien. Die stabile Expression von IGFBP5 in den Brustkrebszelllinien hemmte auch die Bildung und das Wachstum von Tumoren nach Injektion in athymische Mäuse. IGFBP5 gilt als Wachstumshemmer und proapoptotisches Agens in Brustkrebszellen.
