Das Neural Cell Adhesion Molecule, NCAM, auch bekannt als Cluster of Differentiation CD56, ist ein homophiles bindendes Glykoprotein. Es ist ein Glykoprotein der Immunglobulin (Ig)-Superfamilie. Es werden mindestens 27 alternativ gespleißte NCAM-mRNAs produziert, die eine breite Vielfalt an NCAM-Isoformen ergeben. Das NCAM-Gen befindet sich bei 11q22-q23. Dieses Glykoprotein wird hauptsächlich auf der Oberfläche von Neuronen, Gliazellen, Skelettmuskeln und natürlichen Killerzellen exprimiert. NCAM wird eine Rolle bei der Zell-Zell-Adhäsion, dem Neuritenwachstum, der synaptischen Plastizität sowie dem Lernen und Gedächtnis zugeschrieben.
