UL16-bindendes Protein 2 (ULBP2) ist ein Oberflächenglykoprotein, das vom ULBP2-Gen auf Chromosom 6 kodiert wird. Dieses Gen kodiert ein dem Haupthistokompatibilitätskomplex (MHC) Klasse I verwandtes Molekül, das an den NKG2D-Rezeptor auf natürlichen Killerzellen (NK-Zellen) bindet, um die Freisetzung mehrerer Zytokine und Chemokine auszulösen, die wiederum zur Rekrutierung und Aktivierung von NK-Zellen beitragen. Das kodierte Protein wird weiter prozessiert, um das reife Protein zu erzeugen, das entweder über einen Glykosylphosphatidylinositol-Anker an die Membran gebunden oder sezerniert wird. Viele maligne Zellen sezernieren das kodierte Protein, um der Immunüberwachung durch NK-Zellen zu entgehen.
