Thrombospondin 1, auch bekannt als THBS1, ist ein Protein, das beim Menschen durch das THBS1-Gen kodiert wird. Thrombospondin 1 ist eine Untereinheit eines Disulfid-verknüpften homotrimeren Proteins. Dieses Protein ist ein adhäsives Glykoprotein, das Zell-Zell- und Zell-Matrix-Interaktionen vermittelt. Mittels In-situ-Hybridisierung wurde das THBS1-Gen auf das menschliche 15q15 und das homologe Gen auf das Maus-Chromosom 2 (Region F) kartiert und durch Southern-Analyse von Mensch-Nagetiermischzellhybriden auf 15q11-qter lokalisiert. Thrombospondin I ist ein multimodulares sezerniertes Protein, das mit der extrazellulären Matrix assoziiert ist und eine Vielzahl biologischer Funktionen besitzt, einschließlich einer potenten antiangiogenen Aktivität. Weitere Thrombospondin-Gene umfassen Thrombospondine II, III und IV.
