Matrix-Metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) ist auch als Kollagenase bekannt. Matrix-Metalloproteinasen (MMPs) sind Zink-abhängige Proteasen, die extrazelluläre Matrixproteine abbauen. Die MMPs umfassen eine Familie von mindestens 20 proteolytischen Enzymen, die eine wesentliche Rolle bei der Gewebeumgestaltung spielen. Matrix-Metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) spielt eine wichtige Rolle beim Kollagenabbau bei entzündlichen Erkrankungen. MMP1 (interstitielle Kollagenase), MMP9 (Gelatinase B) und MMP12 (Makrophagenelastase) werden als wichtig bei der Entwicklung von Emphysemen angesehen. Rauch-induziertes MMP-1 könnte bei den hautalternden Auswirkungen des Tabakrauchens wichtig sein. Das in diesem Kit verwendete Standardprodukt ist humanes MMP-1 mit einer Molekülmasse von 51-53 kDa. Das nachgewiesene MMP-1 umfasst Zymogen und aktives Enzym.
