MBL2, auch bekannt als Mannose-bindendes Lektin (Protein C) 2, löslich oder Mannose-bindendes Lektin (MBL), ist ein Lektin, das eine entscheidende Rolle in der angeborenen Immunität spielt. MBL2 ist auf Chromosom 10q11.2-q21 kartiert. Es gehört zur Klasse der Kollektine in der C-Typ-Lektin-Superfamilie, deren Funktion die Mustererkennung in der ersten Verteidigungslinie des präimmunen Wirts zu sein scheint. MBL2 erkennt Kohlenhydratmuster, die auf der Oberfläche einer großen Anzahl pathogener Mikroorganismen, einschließlich Bakterien, Viren, Protozoen und Pilzen, vorkommen. Die Bindung von MBL2 an einen Mikroorganismus führt zur Aktivierung des Lektinwegs des Komplementsystems. Eine weitere wichtige Funktion von MBL2 ist, dass dieses Molekül seneszente und apoptotische Zellen bindet und die Aufnahme ganzer, intakter apoptotischer Zellen sowie von Zelltrümmern durch Phagozyten fördert.
