LOX-1 (Lectin-Typ oxidierter LDL-Rezeptor 1), auch bekannt als OLR1, ist ein Protein, das beim Menschen vom OLR1-Gen kodiert wird. LOX-1 ist ein Rezeptorprotein, das zur C-Typ-Lektin-Superfamilie gehört. Das LOX1-Gen ist mittels Fluoreszenz-in-situ-Hybridisierung auf 12p13-p12 kartiert. LOX1 wird auf der Plasmamembran differenzierter Makrophagen exprimiert, nicht jedoch auf Monozyten. Das LOX1-Protein fungiert als Makrophagen-Scavenger-Rezeptor. Eine LOX1-Expression wurde in allen choroidalen Neovaskularisationsmembranen, unabhängig von der Struktur, nachgewiesen, während es keine Hinweise auf LOX1 in den hinteren Segmenten normaler Augen gab. LOX1 spielt eine aktive Rolle in der Pathogenese der choroidalen Neovaskularisation, insbesondere bei ARMD.
