Lipocalin-2 (LCN2), auch bekannt als NGAL, ist ein Protein, das mit der Neutrophilen-Gelatinase assoziiert ist.1 Das LCN2-Gen befindet sich bei 9q34 und enthält 7 Exons.2 Es wird angenommen, dass das 25 kDa große LCN2-Protein kleine lipophile Substanzen wie bakterielles Lipopolysaccharid (LPS) und Formylpeptide bindet und als Modulator der Entzündung fungieren kann. NGAL bindet bakterielle Catecholat-Typ-Eisen-Siderophore fest durch eine zyklisch permutierte, hybride elektrostatische/Kation-Pi-Wechselwirkung und ist ein potentes bakteriostatisches Mittel unter Eisenmangelbedingungen.3 Das primäre LCN2-Transkript ist 3.696 Nukleotide lang, und das prozessierte Transkript ist 809 Nukleotide lang.4 Die LCN2-Expression findet sich im Knochenmark, Uterus, der Prostata, den Speicheldrüsen, dem Magen, dem Appendix, dem Kolon, der Trachea und der Lunge bei Erwachsenen sowie in der fetalen Milz und Lunge. Das in diesem Kit verwendete Standardprodukt ist rekombinantes humanes NGAL, bestehend aus 178 Aminosäuren mit einer Molekülmasse von 22 KDa.
