Interleukin-2 (IL2), früher als T-Zell-Wachstumsfaktor bezeichnet, ist ein stark immunregulierendes Lymphokin, das von Lektin- oder Antigen-aktivierten T-Zellen produziert wird. Es wird nicht nur von reifen T-Lymphozyten bei Stimulation produziert, sondern auch konstitutiv von bestimmten T-Zell-Lymphom-Zelllinien. Das Lymphokin Interleukin-2 (IL-2) ist verantwortlich für den autokrinen Zellzyklusfortschritt und die Regulierung von Immunantworten. Die IL-2-Expression in reifen Thymozyten und T-Zellen wird bekanntermaßen durch monoallelische Expression streng kontrolliert. IL-2 kann als Wachstumshormon sowohl für B- als auch für T-Lymphozyten wirken. Das menschliche Gen für Interleukin 2 (IL2) ist Chromosom 4 zugeordnet. Humanes IL-2 ist ein 15,5 KDa Glykoprotein, das in Vorläuferform aus 153 Aminosäuren und in reifer Form aus 133 Aminosäuren besteht.
