Der GDNF-Familienrezeptor alpha-1 (GFRα1), auch bekannt als GDNF-Rezeptor, ist ein Protein, das beim Menschen vom GFRA1-Gen kodiert wird. Es ist auf 10q25.3 kartiert. Der aus Gliazelllinien stammende neurotrophe Faktor (GDNF) und Neurturin (NTN) sind zwei strukturell verwandte, potente neurotrophe Faktoren, die eine Schlüsselrolle bei der Kontrolle des Überlebens und der Differenzierung von Neuronen spielen. Das von diesem Gen kodierte Protein ist ein Mitglied der GDNF-Rezeptorfamilie. Es handelt sich um einen Glykosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-gebundenen Zelloberflächenrezeptor sowohl für GDNF als auch für NTN und vermittelt die Aktivierung des RET-Tyrosinkinase-Rezeptors. Dieses Gen ist ein Kandidatengen für die Hirschsprung-Krankheit. Für dieses Gen wurden zwei alternativ gespleißte Transkriptvarianten beschrieben, die verschiedene Isoformen kodieren.
