Desmoglein-2 ist ein Protein, das beim Menschen durch das DSG2-Gen kodiert wird. Dieses Gen kodiert ein Mitglied der Desmoglein-Familie und der Cadherin-Zelladhäsionsmolekül-Superfamilie von Proteinen. Desmogleine sind kalziumbindende transmembrane Glykoproteinkomponenten von Desmosomen, Zell-Zell-Verbindungen zwischen Epithel-, Myokard- und anderen Zelltypen. Das kodierte Präproprotein wird proteolytisch verarbeitet, um das reife Glykoprotein zu erzeugen. Dieses Gen ist in einem Gencluster mit anderen Genfamilienmitgliedern von Desmoglein auf Chromosom 18 vorhanden. Mutationen in diesem Gen wurden mit der arrhythmogenen rechtsventrikulären Dysplasie, familiär, 10 in Verbindung gebracht.
