Die Expression dieses Gens kann durch neuronale Aktivität und Neurotrophine induziert werden. Das kodierte Protein enthält ein Konsensus-Spaltungssignal, das in Glykosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-verankerten Proteinen gefunden wird. Das kodierte Protein fördert das Neuritenwachstum und die Arborisation, was auf seine Rolle bei der Förderung der Neuritenbildung hindeutet. Die Überexpression des kodierten Proteins kann mit der Progression von Astrozytomen verbunden sein. Alternatives Spleißen führt zu mehreren Transkriptvarianten.
