Bei Wirbeltieren befinden sich die Gene, die die Klasse der Transkriptionsfaktoren, die sogenannten Homeobox-Gene, kodieren, in Clustern namens A, B, C und D auf vier separaten Chromosomen. Die Expression dieser Proteine wird während der Embryonalentwicklung räumlich und zeitlich reguliert. Dieses Gen ist Teil des A-Clusters auf Chromosom 7 und kodiert für einen DNA-bindenden Transkriptionsfaktor, der die Genexpression, Morphogenese und Differenzierung regulieren kann. Dieses Gen ist an der Regulierung der Gebärmutterentwicklung beteiligt und für die weibliche Fruchtbarkeit erforderlich. Mutationen in diesem Gen können eine Radioulnarsynostose mit Amegakaryozyten-Thrombozytopenie verursachen. [bereitgestellt von RefSeq, Juli 2008].
