Das von diesem Gen kodierte Protein ist ein integrales Membranprotein und ein Kaliumkanal vom Typ des Einwärtsgleichrichters. Das kodierte Protein, das eine größere Tendenz aufweist, Kalium in eine Zelle fließen zu lassen als aus einer Zelle heraus, wird von G-Proteinen gesteuert.
