Hintergrund

Kaliumkanäle sind in den meisten Säugetierzellen vorhanden, wo sie an einer Vielzahl von physiologischen Reaktionen beteiligt sind. Das durch dieses Gen kodierte Protein ist ein integrales Membranprotein und ein Kaliumkanal vom Inward-Rectifier-Typ. Das kodierte Protein hat eine größere Tendenz, Kalium in eine Zelle fließen zu lassen als aus einer Zelle heraus.
