Hintergrund

Das von diesem Gen kodierte Protein gehört zur BCL2-Proteinfamilie. Mitglieder der BCL2-Familie bilden Hetero- oder Homodimere und fungieren als anti- oder proapoptotische Regulatoren, die an einer Vielzahl von zellulären Aktivitäten beteiligt sind. Es wurde gezeigt, dass die Überexpression dieses Gens Apoptose in Zellen induziert. Für dieses Gen wurden drei alternativ gespleißte Transkriptvarianten beschrieben, die zwei verschiedene Isoformen kodieren. [bereitgestellt von RefSeq, Mai 2009]
