Dieses Gen kodiert für ein Enzym, das zur Familie der Diacylglycerol-Acyltransferasen gehört. Dieses Enzym produziert Wachsester durch die Veresterung von langkettigen (oder Wachs-) Alkoholen mit Acyl-CoA-abgeleiteten Fettsäuren. Es fungiert im Lipidstoffwechsel der Haut, hauptsächlich in undifferenzierten peripheren Sebozyten.
