Das von diesem Gen kodierte Protein ist ein wichtiges nicht-neuronales Mikrotubuli-assoziiertes Protein. Dieses Protein enthält eine Domäne, die den Mikrotubuli-Bindungsdomänen des neuronalen Mikrotubuli-assoziierten Proteins (MAP2) und des Mikrotubuli-assoziierten Proteins Tau (MAPT/TAU) ähnelt. Dieses Protein fördert die Mikrotubuli-Assemblierung und hat sich als wirksam erwiesen, um die Destabilisierung der Mikrotubuli-Katastrophenförderung in der Interphase entgegenzuwirken. Es wurde festgestellt, dass Cyclin B mit diesem Protein interagiert, das die Zellteilungszyklus-2-(CDC2)-Kinase an Mikrotubuli bindet. Die Phosphorylierung dieses Proteins beeinflusst die Mikrotubuli-Eigenschaften und den Zellzyklusfortschritt.
