Die Flamingo-Unterfamilie besteht aus nicht-klassischen Cadherinen; einer Unterpopulation, die nicht mit Cateninen interagiert. Die Flamingo-Cadherine befinden sich an der Plasmamembran und besitzen neun Cadherin-Domänen, sieben epidermale Wachstumsfaktor-ähnliche Wiederholungen und zwei Laminin-A-G-Typ-Wiederholungen in ihrer Ektodomäne. Sie haben auch sieben Transmembrandomänen, ein Merkmal, das einzigartig für diese Unterfamilie ist.
