Die Aktivierung der Gentranskription ist ein mehrstufiger Prozess, der durch Faktoren ausgelöst wird, die transkriptionelle Enhancer-Stellen in der DNA erkennen. Diese Faktoren arbeiten mit Co-Aktivatoren zusammen, um die Transkriptionsinitiierung durch den RNA-Polymerase-II-Apparat zu steuern. Das durch dieses Gen kodierte Protein ist eine Untereinheit des CRSP-Komplexes (Cofactor Required for SP1 Activation), der zusammen mit TFIID für eine effiziente Aktivierung durch SP1 erforderlich ist. Dieses Protein ist auch eine Komponente anderer Multisubeinheitenkomplexe, z. B. Schilddrüsenhormonrezeptor-(TR-)assoziierte Proteine, die mit TR interagieren und die TR-Funktion auf DNA-Templates in Verbindung mit Initiationsfaktoren und Kofaktoren erleichtern.
