Sowohl MLLT1- als auch MLLT3-Proteine gehören zu einer Klasse von Transkriptionsfaktoren, was darauf hindeutet, dass das kodierte Protein ebenfalls einen Transkriptionsfaktor darstellen könnte. Es wird angenommen, dass dieses Protein für die RNA-Transkription notwendig ist. Dieses Gen wurde in Tumoren als amplifiziert nachgewiesen.
