Interleukin 17A (IL17A) ist ein proinflammatorisches Zytokin, das von aktivierten T-Lymphozyten sezerniert wird. Es ist ein potenter Induktor der Reifung von CD34-positiven hämatopoetischen Vorläufern zu Neutrophilen. Das von diesem Gen kodierte Transmembranprotein (Interleukin-17A-Rezeptor; IL17RA) ist ein ubiquitär vorkommendes Typ-I-Membranglykoprotein, das mit geringer Affinität an Interleukin 17A bindet. Interleukin 17A und sein Rezeptor spielen eine pathogene Rolle bei vielen entzündlichen und Autoimmunerkrankungen wie rheumatoider Arthritis. Wie andere Zytokinrezeptoren hat auch dieser Rezeptor wahrscheinlich eine multimere Struktur. Alternatives Spleißen führt zu mehreren Transkriptvarianten, die verschiedene Isoformen kodieren.
