Dieses Gen kodiert ein Sialoglykoprotein, das auf reifen Granulozyten und B-Zellen exprimiert wird und Wachstums- und Differenzierungssignale an diese Zellen moduliert. Das Vorläuferprotein wird zu einem kurzen 32 Aminosäuren umfassenden reifen Peptid gespalten, das über eine Glykosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-Verknüpfung an die Zelloberfläche gebunden ist. Dieses Gen fehlte in früheren Genomassemblierungen, ist aber korrekt auf Chromosom 6 lokalisiert. Nicht-transkribierte Pseudogene wurden auf den Chromosomen 1, 15, 20 und Y identifiziert.
