Das Protein interagiert mit dem EGF/TGF-alpha-Rezeptor, um das Wachstum normaler Epithelzellen zu fördern, und hemmt das Wachstum bestimmter aggressiver Karzinomzelllinien. Es spielt auch eine Rolle bei der Entwicklung der Brustdrüse, der Oozyten und des Knochengewebes.
