Das Genprodukt ist für die Bindung und das anschließende Rollen von Leukozyten auf Endothelzellen erforderlich, wodurch deren Migration in sekundäre lymphatische Organe und Entzündungsherde erleichtert wird. Einzelnukleotidpolymorphismen in diesem Gen wurden mit verschiedenen Krankheiten, einschließlich der IgA-Nephropathie, in Verbindung gebracht.
