Funktion: IGF-bindende Proteine verlängern die Halbwertszeit der IGFs und zeigen, dass sie die wachstumsfördernden Effekte der IGFs auf Zellkulturen entweder hemmen oder stimulieren. Sie verändern die Interaktion von IGFs mit ihren Zelloberflächenrezeptoren. PTM: O-glykosidische Kohlenhydrate bestehen aus Hexose (wahrscheinlich Gal), N-Acetylhexosamin (wahrscheinlich GalNAc) und Sialinsäureresten. Hauptglykoformen bestehen aus 8-16 Monosacchariden (durch Homologie zu IGFBP6, rekombinant in CHO-Zellen exprimiert). Ähnlichkeit: Enthält 1 IGFBP N-terminale Domäne.
