Knochenmark-Stromazell-Antigen-1 ist ein von Stromazelllinien abgeleitetes Glykosylphosphatidylinositol-verankertes Molekül, das das Wachstum von Prä-B-Zellen erleichtert. Die abgeleitete Aminosäuresequenz weist eine 33%ige Ähnlichkeit mit CD38 auf. Die BST1-Expression ist in Knochenmark-Stromazelllinien, die von Patienten mit rheumatoider Arthritis stammen, erhöht. Die polyklonalen B-Zell-Anomalien bei rheumatoider Arthritis könnten zumindest teilweise auf eine BST1-Überexpression in der Stromazellpopulation zurückzuführen sein.
