Hintergrund

Dieses Gen kodiert ein Mitglied der mitochondrialen Carrier-Familie. Das kodierte Protein ist an der inneren Mitochondrienmembran lokalisiert und induziert Apoptose unabhängig von den proapoptotischen Proteinen Bax und Bak. Für dieses Gen wurden Pseudogene auf den Chromosomen 6 und 11 identifiziert. Alternativ gespleißte Transkriptvarianten, die mehrere Isoformen kodieren, wurden beobachtet.
