Dieses Gen kodiert für ein Mitglied der Protein-Tyrosin-Phosphatase-Familie. Das kodierte Protein scheint jedoch keine katalytisch aktive Phosphatase zu sein, da ihm mehrere Aminosäuren in der katalytischen Tasche fehlen. Dieses Protein enthält eine Guanin-Nukleotid-Austauschfaktor (GEF)-Domäne, die für seine Rolle bei Wachstum und Differenzierung notwendig ist. Mutationen in diesem Gen wurden mit der Charcot-Marie-Tooth-Krankheit 4B3 in Verbindung gebracht. Pseudogene dieses Gens wurden auf den Chromosomen 1 und 8 definiert.
