S100 Kalziumbindendes Protein A7 (S100A7) Homo sapiens Das von diesem Gen kodierte Protein gehört zur S100-Proteinfamilie und enthält 2 EF-Hand-Kalziumbindemotive. S100-Proteine sind im Zytoplasma und/oder Zellkern einer Vielzahl von Zellen lokalisiert und an der Regulation einer Reihe zellulärer Prozesse wie Zellzyklusprogression und Differenzierung beteiligt. S100-Gene umfassen mindestens 13 Mitglieder, die als Cluster auf Chromosom 1q21 lokalisiert sind. Dieses Protein unterscheidet sich von den anderen S100-Proteinen bekannter Struktur durch das Fehlen der Kalziumbindefähigkeit in einer EF-Hand am N-Terminus. Das Protein wird bei hyperproliferativen Hautkrankheiten überexprimiert, zeigt antimikrobielle Aktivitäten gegen Bakterien und induziert immunmodulatorische Aktivitäten.
