Hintergrund

Dieses Gen kodiert eine Serinprotease, die ausschließlich im Thymus exprimiert wird. Es wird angenommen, dass sie eine Rolle im alternativen Antigen-präsentierenden Weg spielt, der von kortikalen thymischen Epithelzellen während der positiven Selektion von T-Zellen genutzt wird. Das Gen befindet sich im großen Histon-Gencluster auf Chromosom 6, nahe der MHC-Klasse-I-Region (Major Histocompatibility Complex).
