Dieses Gen kodiert ein Mitglied der Thioredoxin-Superfamilie. Mitglieder dieser Familie zeichnen sich durch ein konserviertes aktives Motiv aus, die sogenannte Thioredoxin-Faltung, die die Bildung und Isomerisierung von Disulfidbrücken katalysiert. Dieses Protein lokalisiert sich im Endoplasmatischen Retikulum und besitzt ein einziges atypisches aktives Motiv. Das kodierte Protein ist hauptsächlich an der Katalyse der Bildung nativer Disulfidbrücken beteiligt und zeigt eine ähnliche Aktivität wie Proteindisulfid-Isomerasen. Dieses Protein könnte eine Rolle bei der Abwehr von endoplasmatischem Retikulumstress spielen. Alternatives Spleißen führt sowohl zu kodierenden als auch zu nicht-kodierenden Varianten.
