Das von diesem Gen kodierte Protein ist an der Reparatur von gestoppten Topoisomerase-I-DNA-Komplexen beteiligt, indem es die Hydrolyse der Phosphodiesterbindung zwischen dem Tyrosinrest der Topoisomerase I und dem 3'-Phosphat der DNA katalysiert. Dieses Protein kann auch Glykolat aus einzelsträngiger DNA entfernen, die 3'-Phosphoglykolat enthält, was auf eine Rolle bei der Reparatur von durch freie Radikale vermittelten DNA-Doppelstrangbrüchen hindeutet. Dieses Gen gehört zur Familie der Phospholipase D und enthält zwei PLD-Phosphodiesterase-Domänen. Mutationen in diesem Gen sind mit der Krankheit spinozerebelläre Ataxie mit axonaler Neuropathie (SCAN1) assoziiert. [bereitgestellt von RefSeq, Aug 2016].
