Hintergrund

Dieses Gen kodiert für ein Typ-I-Membranprotein, das mit Beta-Glukosidasen verwandt ist. Eine reduzierte Produktion dieses Proteins wurde bei Patienten mit chronischem Nierenversagen (CNV) beobachtet, und dies könnte einer der Faktoren sein, die den degenerativen Prozessen (z. B. Arteriosklerose, Osteoporose und Hautatrophie) zugrunde liegen, die bei CNV beobachtet werden. Auch Mutationen innerhalb dieses Proteins wurden mit Alterung und Knochenschwund in Verbindung gebracht.
