Laut PubMed:97066888, PubMed:97066971 und PubMed:9013614 ist das menschliche NPY6R-Gen ein exprimiertes Pseudogen, das ein vorzeitiges Stopp-Codon enthält und ein nicht-funktionales, verkürztes Protein kodiert, dem die letzte Transmembrandomäne fehlt. Eine Einzelbasen-Deletion im Vergleich zum Maus-Ortholog führt zu einem verkürzten Protein, dem die siebte Transmembrandomäne fehlt. Funktion: Wenn exprimiert, ist es nicht in der Lage, Pankreatisches Polypeptid (PP), Neuropeptid Y (NPY) oder Peptid YY (PYY) zu binden, was darauf hindeutet, dass es entweder funktionell inaktiv ist oder eine pankreatisches Polypeptid-unabhängige Funktion erworben haben könnte.
