Hintergrund

Ubiquitin ist ein hochkonserviertes nukleäres und zytoplasmatisches Protein, das eine wichtige Rolle bei der Zielsteuerung zellulärer Proteine für den Abbau durch das 26S Proteasom spielt. Es ist auch an der Aufrechterhaltung der Chromatin-Struktur, der Regulation der Genexpression und der Stressantwort beteiligt. Ubiquitin wird als Vorläuferprotein synthetisiert, das entweder aus Polyubiquitin-Ketten oder einer einzelnen Ubiquitin-Einheit besteht, die mit einem nicht verwandten Protein fusioniert ist. Dieses Gen kodiert für ein Fusionsprotein, das aus Ubiquitin am N-Terminus und dem ribosomale Protein L40 am C-Terminus besteht, einem C-terminalen Extensionsprotein (CEP).
