Die CTGF-Familienmitglieder sind durch vier konservierte cysteinreiche Domänen gekennzeichnet: eine insulinähnliche Wachstumsfaktor-bindende Domäne, eine von-Willebrand-Faktor-Typ-C-Domäne, eine Thrombospondin-Domäne und eine C-terminale cystin-knotenähnliche Domäne. Dieses Gen könnte stromabwärts im WNT1-Signalweg liegen, der für die maligne Transformation relevant ist. Es wird in Fibroblastenzellen stark exprimiert und in Kolontumoren überexprimiert.
