Hintergrund

Dieses Gen kodiert eines der Proteine, die im SMN-Komplex gefunden werden. Dieser besteht aus mehreren Gemin-Proteinen und dem als Survival of Motor Neuron Protein bekannten Protein. Der SMN-Komplex ist in einem subnuklearen Kompartiment namens Gems (Gemini of Coiled Bodies) lokalisiert und ist für die Assemblierung von spliceosomalen snRNPs und für das prä-mRNA-Spleißen erforderlich. Dieses Protein interagiert direkt mit dem Survival of Motor Neuron Protein und ist für die Bildung des SMN-Komplexes erforderlich. Eine Knockout-Maus, die das Maus-Homolog dieses Gens angreift, zeigte eine gestörte snRNP-Assemblierung und Motoneuron-Degeneration. [bereitgestellt von RefSeq, Aug 2011],
